Lesson 12

I am upset because I see a meaningless world.

What this lesson is saying

“I am upset because I see a meaningless world.” The upset is not the street, the feed, the delay. The upset is taking a picture with no real purpose and calling that picture a finished fact.

Fear needs a story that “this is how it is.” You labeled the picture, then feared the label. He will not let you blame the street. Short sitting. If you feel strain, stop. End with the idea: the upset is the reading, not the world.

This is not saying

This is not contempt for the world, and not a command to despise your life. Stay in the day. Eat. Help. The ordinary hour is not the enemy. The story laid on it is.

Why this can change a day

News, money, other people, and your own face can all be used as proof that the world is empty or against you. If that is a reading, it can be unread today — and a different hour can happen in the same place.

In your day

Same idea, three ordinary places — a relationship or encounter, the case against yourself, and a situation at work or at home. You do not need a special mood.

  1. In a situation

A delay, a feed, a bill, a look — and you decide “that’s just how the world is.”

    What to do

Say: I am upset because I see a meaningless world. The street is not God. Take the reading off. Then the next kind thing.

  2. With someone

You are using them as proof that people are like that.

    What to do

They are not the world. They are a person. Same sentence. Then speak to this one.

  3. Toward yourself

The day looks cheap or cruel and you take that as a fact about you.

    What to do

That is a reading too. Correct it. Stay in the day.

Two voices in the same mind

Hear which one is running. Then today’s idea, on a real person — or on you.

Unloving thought

I am upset because of the way the world is. Anyone would be. Judgment of the world is sanity.

Jesus’s way

You are upset because you see a meaningless world — a picture you labeled, then feared. The upset is the reading, not the street.

Jesus’s commentary for Lesson 12

Tina reads the official workbook lesson first. Then she channels. The video is the source. The notes below are study notes of that sitting — not a transcript, and not A Year of Forgiveness.

This is the channeled portion — after Tina has read the lesson. Study notes of that sitting. Not a transcript.

  • You are upset because you see a meaningless world — a picture you labeled, then feared.
  • He will not let you blame the picture.
  • Short sitting.
  • Strain is a stop sign, not a badge.
  • End with the idea: the upset is the reading, not the street.

How to sit today

Part I · Undoing

The idea is above. This is the one sitting this number asks — how often, how long, and the words. Not a second lesson.

How often
Three or four times are enough
How long
Do not exceed a minute. Stop whenever you feel strain — even this may be too long
Eyes
Open

How

  1. Eyes open. Look around quite slowly, keeping a measured tempo as your glance shifts. Pleasant and unpleasant get the same interval.
  2. Apply the idea as you look. At the end add: “But I am upset because I see a meaningless world.”

Longer sitting

Three or four times — do not exceed a minute. Stop at strain

  1. Today’s idea is: “I am upset because I see a meaningless world.”
  2. Eyes open. Look around quite slowly. Pleasant and unpleasant get the same interval.
  3. Apply the idea as you look.
  4. At the end of the minute add:
  5. Say, slowly: “But I am upset because I see a meaningless world.”

Strain is a stop sign, not a badge.

These scripts follow the workbook’s own method for this number — duration, frequency, and the sentences it asks you to use. They are a study paraphrase, not a replacement. Read the official lesson at acim.org and follow any wording it gives that is more specific than this card.

Spalding

“I am upset because I see a meaningless world.” Seeing here is a mind’s frequency, not better eyeballs. He is retraining perception so love can use it. Practice on what is actually in front of you, including the face you do not like. That is the whole method.

Ra

Love/light is the stuff of the octave. Seeing with God is not metaphor — it is a shift toward that spectrum. Meditation (session 10) is the daily tool.
