Workbook · Part I

Lesson 14

God did not create a meaningless world.

What this lesson is saying

Today’s idea is: “God did not create a meaningless world.” In ordinary English: God did not make a purposeless universe. The emptiness you see is a reading, not the world God made.

God, in this workbook, is not a distant judge. Love is the name for the mind that is not at war. “God goes with you” means you do not have to fetch a spiritual state, then go live. The next room, the next person, the next fear is already the place.

You do not have to believe it first. You use the words on one real judgment — of someone, of yourself, of a situation — and then you take the next ordinary step.

This is not saying

This is not church language you have to swallow, and not a demand that you feel devout. If the word God gets in the way, use Love. The practice is the same: stop arguing that you are alone.

Why this can change a day

Loneliness, specialness, and attack all need God to be absent. Remembering you are accompanied changes how you treat a stranger, a partner, and the face in the glass — without a speech.

In your day

Same idea, three ordinary places — a relationship or encounter, the case against yourself, and a situation at work or at home. You do not need a special mood.

  1. With someone

You tighten in a conversation to stay safe — attack dressed as self-protection.

    What to do

Say the words as written: “God did not create a meaningless world.” Notice the tightening. Drop the wish to strike. Keep any clear no. You do not have to hate them to be safe.

  2. Toward yourself

The year, or the sitting, feels finished — a certificate, a rest from seeing, judgment can come back.

    What to do

Say the words as written: “God did not create a meaningless world.” This instant — not a diploma. Give it. You will take it back when the judgment starts. Give it again. The commentary ends. The practice does not.

  3. At work, at home, or in a situation

Someone cut you off, a line did not move, a tone in a shop — a fictitious anger.

    What to do

Say the words as written: “God did not create a meaningless world.” Name the official reason. Set it down. One breath without the story that they caused your aloneness. Then the next useful thing.

Two voices in the same mind

Hear which one is running. Then today’s idea, on a real person — or on you.

Unloving thought

Existence is a mistake. Or: I should skip ordinary life and be spiritual. God made this mess.

Jesus’s way

God did not create a meaningless world. His world is love; yours is the overlay. Do not use this lesson to leave your life. Use it to stop blaming God for the judgment you laid on the day.

Jesus’s commentary for Lesson 14

This is the channeled portion — after Tina has read the lesson. Study notes of that sitting. Not a transcript.

  • God did not create a meaningless world.
  • The meaninglessness you see is yours.
  • His world is love; yours is the overlay.
  • Do not use this lesson to leave your life.
  • Use it to stop blaming God for the overlay.

How to sit today

Part I · Undoing

The idea is above. This is the one sitting this number asks — how often, how long, and the words. Not a second lesson.

How often
Not more than three practice periods unless they feel comfortable, plus through the day on anything that disturbs you
How long
Mind searching: a minute at most
When shaken
Whenever a disturbing situation arises, apply the idea to it.
Eyes
Closed throughout

How

  1. Eyes closed throughout. Think of horrors or fears that cross the mind — war, sickness, disaster, a personal dread.
  2. Name each one and deny its reality: God did not create that, and so it is not real.
  3. Conclude with today’s idea: God did not create a meaningless world.

Longer sitting

Not more than three sittings unless they feel comfortable — a minute of searching at most

  1. Today’s idea is: “God did not create a meaningless world.”
  2. Eyes closed throughout.
  3. Search briefly for fears that a meaningless world seems to justify — wars, disasters, illness, private catastrophes.
  4. For each one:
  5. Say, slowly: “God did not create that [name the fear], and so it is not real.”
  6. End the sitting with today’s idea:
  7. Say, slowly: “God did not create a meaningless world.”

These scripts follow the workbook’s own method for this number — duration, frequency, and the sentences it asks you to use. They are a study paraphrase, not a replacement. Read the official lesson at acim.org and follow any wording it gives that is more specific than this card.

This lesson is practice in polarizing with the person in front of you. Service to others is not a slogan. It is whether you treat them as the same being you are.
