Lesson 6

I am upset because I see something that is not there.

What this lesson is saying

“I am upset because I see something that is not there.” The person did something. The extra is the meaning you wrote: this proves I am unsafe, unloved, a fool, alone.

Facts can be there. The private movie laid over the moment is what the upset is standing on. Remove the extra, and the upset has nothing to live on. He will not let you keep the person as the cause.

This is not saying

This is not gaslighting you. If a boundary is needed, keep it. “Something that is not there” is the story, not the event.

Why this can change a day

We fight pictures — a text that did not come, a face from last year, a future we invented — and call it dealing with them. Seeing the add-on is how you come back to this hour and this person.

In your day

Same idea, three ordinary places — a relationship or encounter, the case against yourself, and a situation at work or at home. You do not need a special mood.

  1. With someone

They are in the room, or on a screen, and you are already in court.

    What to do

Look at this face, this hour. Say: I am upset because I see something that is not there. Take the extra off. Then speak only what is useful.

  2. In a situation

A text that did not come. You are already sure what it means.

    What to do

You are fighting a picture. Come back. If a fact must be asked, ask only the fact. Leave the case.

  3. Toward yourself

A picture of you as already lost, already unholy, already behind.

    What to do

That picture is not there either. Same sentence. Then the next small honest step.

Two voices in the same mind

Hear which one is running. Then today’s idea, on a real person — or on you.

Unloving thought

They are standing there. Of course I am upset — look at them. The person is the cause.

Jesus’s way

You are upset because you see something that is not there. The extra is the meaning you wrote — old story, verdict, file. It can be unwritten today.

Jesus’s commentary for Lesson 6

Tina reads the official workbook lesson first. Then she channels. The video is the source. The notes below are study notes of that sitting — not a transcript, and not A Year of Forgiveness.

After the reading

In the video · Jesus speaking

This is the channeled portion — after Tina has read the lesson. Study notes of that sitting. Not a transcript.

  • Upset because you see something that is not there: the ‘there’ is a projection.
  • He will not let you keep the person as the cause.
  • The something-not-there is the meaning you wrote, and it can be unwritten today.

How to sit today

Part I · Undoing

The idea is above. This is the one sitting this number asks — how often, how long, and the words. Not a second lesson.

How often
Three or four required practice periods
How long
A minute or so of mind searching first, then apply the idea to each upsetting thought you find
When shaken
Also use it throughout the day on anything that seems to upset you.
Eyes
Closed for the search

How

  1. Same search as Lesson 5. Then: “I am upset because I see something that is not there.”
  2. If you resist applying it to some upsets more than others, repeat: there are no small upsets — and you cannot keep this form of upset and let the others go.

Longer sitting

Three or four sittings — a minute of searching, then the idea on each upset

  1. Today’s idea is: “I am upset because I see something that is not there.”
  2. Same search as Lesson 5. Then apply today’s idea to each upsetting thought you find.
  3. Say, slowly: “I am upset because I see something that is not there.”
  4. If you resist some upsets more than others, remind yourself: there are no small upsets, and you cannot keep this one and let the others go.

When shaken

Whenever something seems to upset you

  1. Say, slowly: “I am upset because I see something that is not there.”

These scripts follow the workbook’s own method for this number — duration, frequency, and the sentences it asks you to use. They are a study paraphrase, not a replacement. Read the official lesson at acim.org and follow any wording it gives that is more specific than this card.

Love/light is the stuff of the octave. Seeing with God is not metaphor — it is a shift toward that spectrum. Meditation (session 10) is the daily tool.
