You will not be saved alone
You were not damned alone. Salvation in this book is a change of mind, shared. A holy relationship is how that sharing becomes visible — salvation’s classroom.
Two people using a bond for truth is not a romantic extra. It is the method.
The attack thought ends softly
You expected God to fight. God does not fight. The Holy Spirit’s answer is not a counter-war. Softness here is not weakness. It is the end of the war-story.
You are not asked to stay in harm. You are asked not to use harm as proof that love is false.
Salvation as joining
Social memory, in Ra, begins in more than one. A holy pair is a miniature of that joining. Save the relationship by using it for truth, or it will use you for the old war.
Unsentimental hope: the bond is a classroom, or it is a war. The goal decides.
How to sit this chapter
When you want God to take your side against them, that is the bell. Ask instead: what would joining look like that is not surrender of truth and not a fight?
The quiet answer is the chapter. Loud is the old teacher.

The same bond, used for truth instead of need. Two minds that will not use each other.
Words in this chapter
Salvation
Your function, not a future rapture. In the workbook it is usually identical with forgiveness, happiness, and remembering what you are. “Only God’s plan will work” means your private plans to be safe, special, or avenged will not.
Atonement
Not payment to an angry God. Atonement is the already-finished correction of the idea that separation worked. You do not invent it. You accept it — usually by forgiving in a real situation (Lesson 139). Salvation is that acceptance, lived today. Full study: Atonement.
Holiness
Not piety and not cleanliness. Holiness is what you are because of your Source. “My holiness envelops everything I see” is not a claim that you became impressive. It is the refusal to see unholiness as anyone’s identity — including yours.
Harvest
Ra’s word for a mind becoming consistently loving (or consistently controlling) enough to graduate this density. Positive path: roughly 51% service-to-others. Negative: roughly 95% service-to-self. Mixed minds repeat third density. The Course’s salvation/Atonement is the same movement without the cosmology. It is not a date. It is whether this next choice loves.
Holy relationship
The same pairing as a special relationship, given to the Holy Spirit. Romance is not required. Daily decision is. Two people (or a group) who will not complete a private self on each other. Ra’s social memory in seed. Text chapters 15–17.
Special relationship
A bond used to complete a private self — romance, family, alliance, even an enemy. A holy relationship is the same pairing given to the Holy Spirit: two minds that will not use each other. It is a decision, daily, not a soulmate myth.
Spalding
Save the relationship by using it for truth, or it will use you for the old war. Tina is unsentimental and hopeful at once.
