Walk through this chapter
Introduction. Each section of this chapter, in order. Ordinary words under a paragraph are the same teaching, said simply. The Text is the map. The day’s workbook lesson is still the walk. Official Text: acim.org.
What this book is
A Course in Miracles is a mind-training, not a belief system to collect and not a new church. It is practical. Only time is optional. You can take as long as you want. You cannot skip the change of mind and still call it this course.
This is not a club. It is practice for how you see. Reading it as a theory to own is how you stay the same.
The three sentences that hold the whole book
Nothing real can be threatened. Nothing unreal exists. Herein lies the peace of God. Every later chapter is a working-out of those three lines. If something real could be hurt, God would be at war. If the unreal existed, there would be two worlds.
What God created cannot be damaged. What you invented as a private world is not a second creation. Peace is what is left when you stop defending the invented world.
A miracle, as this book will use the word
A miracle is a change in how you see, not a change in furniture. It is natural when love is looking. It is not a stunt and not a prize for the holy. The workbook trains what this page states.
The miracle is you dropping attack as a way of seeing. The street can stay. The meaning you stuck on it does not have to.
How to read what follows
Understand a little. Then do a lesson. Then live it on a person. That is the whole method. Hide in neither the Text nor the workbook.
Do not hide in the Text. Do not hide in the workbook. A little understanding, then a lesson, then a person.
The plan this chapter names: Atonement.
Words in this chapter
Miracle
In this course a miracle is a shift in how you see — from attack to joining — not a supernatural stunt. There is no order of difficulty: the small irritation and the lifelong grievance use the same mechanism. A miracle collapses time because you stopped insisting on the old story.
Perception
The report your mind writes and then calls “the world.” Perception is not knowledge. It is always interpretation, always of the past until it is forgiven. The first fifty lessons are mostly this: stop treating perception as revelation.
Holy Spirit
The remaining communication link — the part of your mind that never believed the separation. Not a ghost in the room. The inner Teacher who translates the world you made into a classroom. When a lesson says “listen,” this is Who is being listened for. Stillness is the method; manufactured voices are the ego auditioning.
Spalding
Tina's Jesus starts in the same place with less Latin: you have been looking in the wrong direction. Turn around. The Course is not an intellectual pastime.

All is one. A miracle is the sudden end of the pretense that it is not.
