Lesson 134

Let me perceive forgiveness as it is.

What this lesson is saying

“Let me perceive forgiveness as it is.” Forgiveness is not what you thought. It is not pardon of a real sin from a noble height. It is looking with “I don’t know” about anyone’s path in the grand design.

Do not get sucked into media and gossip. Playing God by punishing is unqualified. You are not the judge of what their life is for. A clean no can still be love. A ranking cannot.

This is not saying

This is not moral laziness. Facts can be stated. Harm can be left. Forgiveness as it is does not need a villain so you can be the saint.

Why this can change a day

False forgiveness keeps the war (“you did it, and I am good”). Real forgiveness ends the trial. That is why it can be used on a public enemy, a partner, and yourself in the same day.

In your day

Same idea, three ordinary places — a relationship or encounter, the case against yourself, and a situation at work or at home. You do not need a special mood.

  1. With someone

You know what they should do, what they deserve, what their lesson is.

    What to do

You do not know. Say the idea. Become a passerby. Help if help is real. Punishment as care is not this.

  2. In a situation

A news clip, a feed, a conversation that wants a villain — and you lean in.

    What to do

Notice the loop. Forgiveness as it is does not need the feed. Look away. The next kind thing is.

  3. Toward yourself

You are the villain in your own trial.

    What to do

Same. You do not know what you are for in the way the ego claims. Drop the gavel. Then the next honest step.

Two voices in the same mind

Hear which one is running. Then today’s idea, on a real person — or on you.

Unloving thought

I will let it go when I have understood it, explained it, and been seen as the injured one. I’ll tell it once more so it is fair. Media and gossip will confirm I am right.

Jesus’s way

Let me perceive forgiveness as it is. Looking with ‘I don’t know’ about anyone’s path. Do not get sucked into media and gossip. Playing God by punishing is unqualified.

Jesus’s commentary for Lesson 134

Tina reads the official workbook lesson first. Then she channels. The video is the source. The notes below are study notes of that sitting — not a transcript, and not A Year of Forgiveness.

  • Forgiveness is not what you thought.
  • It is looking with ‘I don’t know’ about anyone’s path in the grand design.
  • Do not get sucked into media and gossip.
  • Playing God by punishing is unqualified.
  • What looks bad may be working something you cannot see.

How to sit today

Part I · Forgiveness

The idea is above. This is the one sitting this number asks — how often, how long, and the words. Not a second lesson.

How often
A quarter of an hour twice, plus through the day whenever you forget and attack yourself
How long
Fifteen minutes twice
When shaken
When you forget what forgiveness is, tell yourself the idea until the illusion of justified attack is seen through.

How

  1. Ask the Guide Who understands forgiveness to teach it. True forgiveness does not pardon a real sin — it looks, sees what never could be true of a Son of God, and lets go.

Longer sitting

Two extended sittings — fifteen minutes twice is the standard for this stretch

  1. Today’s idea is: “Let me perceive forgiveness as it is.”
  2. Read the idea (and the prayer or specific form the official lesson gives). Spend the sitting in that idea.
  3. Say, slowly: “Let me perceive forgiveness as it is.”
  4. Let related thoughts come. Return to the idea when the mind wanders. Give the rest of the day to remembering it.

Short / hourly

A reminder on the hour — even a minute if that is all you have

  1. Say, slowly: “Let me perceive forgiveness as it is.”

When shaken

When the day’s idea is the medicine, use it on the actual situation, not later in a chair

  1. Say, slowly: “Let me perceive forgiveness as it is.”

These scripts follow the workbook’s own method for this number — duration, frequency, and the sentences it asks you to use. They are a study paraphrase, not a replacement. Read the official lesson at acim.org and follow any wording it gives that is more specific than this card.

Spalding

Forgiveness is not what you thought. It is looking with ‘I don’t know’ about anyone’s path in the grand design. Do not get sucked into media and gossip. Playing God by punishing is unqualified. Step back. Suffer less. What looks bad may be working something you cannot see. Love what is, understood or not.

Ra

See the other-self as the Creator. The act may have been a distortion. The being is not the distortion. Harvest depends on this seeing becoming habitual.

Carla forgave under conditions most of us will not meet. The method was the same: the one who wounds is still the One.
