Lesson 182

I will be still an instant and go home.

What this lesson is saying

Today’s idea is: “I will be still an instant and go home.” In ordinary English: Be still for an instant and remember home. An instant is enough to start.

Guidance here is not a ghost and not a performance. It is the part of your mind that is not at war, noticed when you get quiet. The commentator will try to help. Let it run down. Kindness after you stand up is a good test that you actually listened.

You do not have to believe it first. You use the words on one real judgment — of someone, of yourself, of a situation — and then you take the next ordinary step.

This is not saying

This is not asking you to manufacture a voice, skip ordinary advice, or treat every impulse as God. Fear of sitting still is often cultural. Note the fear. Sit anyway. Do not invent.

Why this can change a day

A day run only by the commentator is a day of attack and defense. A little stillness is how a different next step can arrive — at work, at home, in the next conversation.

In your day

Same idea, three ordinary places — a relationship or encounter, the case against yourself, and a situation at work or at home. You do not need a special mood.

  1. With someone

A delay that ‘proves’ the world is against you — traffic, a wait, a plan that stalled.

    What to do

Say the words as written: “I will be still an instant and go home.” You have invented the meaning, not the asphalt. Take that invented law off for one hour. Speak to this day, not to the theory.

  2. Toward yourself

A thought says someone else is the problem — and it feels like a report from reality.

    What to do

Say the words as written: “I will be still an instant and go home.” The thought is not a report from God. Let it pass. If something useful must be said, say only that.

  3. At work, at home, or in a situation

A family member’s tone, a look, a holiday remark — and the old file opens.

    What to do

Say the words as written: “I will be still an instant and go home.” The event can be remembered. The verdict can wait. One uncluttered look. Then speak as you normally would.

Two voices in the same mind

Hear which one is running. Then today’s idea, on a real person — or on you.

Unloving thought

That’s just how the world is. They always. These are the laws. Anyone would tell this.

Jesus’s way

“I will be still an instant and go home.” Sit. Do not manufacture a voice. If a thought flatters you or hurries you, it is not this. Kindness after you stand is a good test.

Jesus’s commentary for Lesson 182

Tina reads the official workbook lesson first. Then she channels. The video is the source. The notes below are study notes of that sitting — not a transcript, and not A Year of Forgiveness.

After the reading

In the video · Jesus speaking

This is the channeled portion — after Tina has read the lesson. Study notes of that sitting. Not a transcript.

  • “I will be still an instant and go home.” Will is free, and you have been using it to stay unhealed.
  • He asks for the little willingness that is not theatrical.
  • After Tina reads Lesson 182, the channeling is living “I will be still an instant and go home.” He will not let it stay a slogan. Use these words. Do not swap them for a thought you like better.

How to sit today

Part I · Peace

The idea is above. This is the one sitting this number asks — how often, how long, and the words. Not a second lesson.

How often
Morning sitting as Lesson 153 began it, plus hourly remembrance, plus when you are tempted to forget
How long
Five minutes is the least you give the morning sitting. Ten is better; fifteen better still. The evening pair matches. Hourly: even a minute if that is all you can offer
Through the day
When the hour strikes, remember. When you can, give more than a minute.
When shaken
When the day’s idea is the medicine, use it on the actual situation, not later in a chair.
If you forget
A lapse is not a failure story. Resume. Guilt about missing is another idle thought.

How

  1. Lesson 182 keeps the form begun in Lesson 153. Sit without armor. Read the idea (and the prayer if the lesson gives one). Then wait. Defenselessness is the method, not a mood.
  2. Do not throw the day away because an hour was forgotten. Return at the next hour.

Longer sitting

Two extended sittings — fifteen minutes twice is the standard for this stretch

  1. Today’s idea is: “I will be still an instant and go home.”
  2. Read the idea (and the prayer or specific form the official lesson gives). Spend the sitting in that idea.
  3. Say, slowly: “I will be still an instant and go home.”
  4. Let related thoughts come. Return to the idea when the mind wanders. Give the rest of the day to remembering it.

Short / hourly

A reminder on the hour — even a minute if that is all you have

  1. Say, slowly: “I will be still an instant and go home.”

When shaken

When the day’s idea is the medicine, use it on the actual situation, not later in a chair

  1. Say, slowly: “I will be still an instant and go home.”

These scripts follow the workbook’s own method for this number — duration, frequency, and the sentences it asks you to use. They are a study paraphrase, not a replacement. Read the official lesson at acim.org and follow any wording it gives that is more specific than this card.

“I will be still an instant and go home.” Will is free, and you have been using it to stay unhealed. He asks for the little willingness that is not theatrical. God’s Will is happiness. The other will is the overlay’s plan. Pick, then live the pick.

Ra

This lesson is practice in polarizing with the person in front of you. Service to others is not a slogan. It is whether you treat them as the same being you are.
