Lesson 3

I do not understand anything I see in this room [on this street, from this window, in this place].

What this lesson is saying

“I do not understand anything I see.” In ordinary English: you do not actually know what this is for — this object, this face, this day.

The mind that already knows what the room is for cannot be shown anything new. “I do not understand” is not an insult to your intelligence. It is the honest position. The labels were never knowledge. They were filing.

This is not saying

This is not asking you to become stupid, or to stop doing your job. You can still boil water. You can still answer email. You drop the claim that you already know what a person is for.

Why this can change a day

Playing God about other people’s paths — and about your own — is how a day becomes a courtroom. Not-knowing is how patience, help, and a clean look become possible.

In your day

Same idea, three ordinary places — a relationship or encounter, the case against yourself, and a situation at work or at home. You do not need a special mood.

  1. At work or at a task

Your eyes rest on an ordinary object or a task and you already “know” what it is.

    What to do

Say: I do not understand this. Look a few seconds without the name. Then do the useful next step.

  2. With someone

You are sure you know who they are and what they should do with their life.

    What to do

Let “I do not understand” be a relief. Become a passerby. Bless first. Help if help is real. Correction as superiority is not this lesson.

  3. Toward yourself

You have already filed your day, your body, your worth.

    What to do

You do not understand that either. Take the file off for a minute. Then begin.

Two voices in the same mind

Hear which one is running. Then today’s idea, on a real person — or on you.

Unloving thought

I already know. A person is who I decided they are. Understanding is the label. Not knowing would make me stupid, or unsafe.

Jesus’s way

I do not understand this. The mind that already knows what the room is for cannot be taught. Let ‘I do not understand’ be a relief. The labels were never knowledge.

Jesus’s commentary for Lesson 3

Tina reads the official workbook lesson first. Then she channels. The video is the source. The notes below are study notes of that sitting — not a transcript, and not A Year of Forgiveness.

After the reading

In the video · Jesus speaking

This is the channeled portion — after Tina has read the lesson. Study notes of that sitting. Not a transcript.

  • Not understanding is the honest position.
  • The mind that already knows what the room is for cannot be taught.
  • He asks you to let ‘I do not understand’ be a relief, not an insult.
  • The labels were never knowledge.

How to sit today

Part I · Undoing

The idea is above. This is the one sitting this number asks — how often, how long, and the words. Not a second lesson.

How often
Not more than twice today — preferably morning and evening
How long
About one unhurried minute each. A comfortable sense of leisure is essential. Do not hurry.
Eyes
Open

How

  1. Same method as Lessons 1–2. Whatever you see is a proper subject. These are not exercises in judgment.
  2. If something has an emotionally charged meaning for you, lay the feeling aside and use the thing exactly as you would anything else.

Longer sitting

Morning or evening sitting — about one unhurried minute. Not more than twice today

  1. Today’s idea is: “I do not understand anything I see in this room [on this street, from this window, in this place].”
  2. Same looking as Lessons 1–2. Whatever you see is a proper subject.
  3. Say, slowly: “I do not understand this [name it].”
  4. If a thing is emotionally charged, lay the feeling aside and use it exactly as you would a cup.
  5. Stop at about a minute. This is not a test of insight.

Do not question whether a subject is “suitable.” One thing is like another — equally useful.

These scripts follow the workbook’s own method for this number — duration, frequency, and the sentences it asks you to use. They are a study paraphrase, not a replacement. Read the official lesson at acim.org and follow any wording it gives that is more specific than this card.

Love/light is the stuff of the octave. Seeing with God is not metaphor — it is a shift toward that spectrum. Meditation (session 10) is the daily tool.
