Lesson 68

Love holds no grievances.

What this lesson is saying

“Love holds no grievances.” Search for major ones, then the minor ones you hold against people you like or think you love. There will be no one left out.

A grievance is a decision to keep seeing a different kind of being than God created. Dropping it is not denial of events. It is denial that events get to author anyone. You do not have to hang out with them. Gossip about them costs you the sitting.

This is not saying

This is not a command to stay, to call, or to drop a boundary that is actually love. Love can say no. Love does not keep a case.

Why this can change a day

The resented person is a savior: forgiveness of them eases your loneliness. Being right is a poor wage. This lesson is revolutionary because it includes the people you like — the ranking you call standards.

In your day

Same idea, three ordinary places — a relationship or encounter, the case against yourself, and a situation at work or at home. You do not need a special mood.

  1. With someone you resent

The grievance is your companion. Being right is your wage. They must pay first.

    What to do

Name what the grievance is giving you — being right, being owed. Put that down. Determine to see them as a friend in the mind. Keep any boundary that is actually love.

  2. With someone you like

You greet someone you think you love, and still rank them — late, messy, not trying.

    What to do

There will be no one left out, including the ones you like. Drop the ranking. Speak as you normally would.

  3. Toward yourself

The grievance against you — I should be further, better, less.

    What to do

Love holds no grievances, including this one. Same dropping. Then the next decent action.

Two voices in the same mind

Hear which one is running. Then today’s idea, on a real person — or on you.

Unloving thought

The grievance is my companion. Being right is my wage. They must pay first. I’ll tell someone who will agree. Even someone I like is not exempt — they should try harder.

Jesus’s way

Love holds no grievances. Search for major ones, then the minor ones you hold against people you like or think you love. There will be no one left out. You do not have to hang out with them. Gossip about them costs you the sitting.

How to sit today

Part I · Function

The idea is above. This is the one sitting this number asks — how often, how long, and the words. Not a second lesson.

How often
One extended sitting plus frequent reminders
How long
Ten to fifteen minutes
When shaken
The moment a grievance feels justified, this is the sitting in miniature.

How

  1. Search for those against whom you hold major grievances, then the minor ones you hold against people you like or think you love. There will be no one left out.
  2. Determine to see them as friends. Apply: love holds no grievances. Ask to see them without the claim.

Longer sitting

One extended sitting — ten to fifteen minutes

These scripts follow the workbook’s own method for this number — duration, frequency, and the sentences it asks you to use. They are a study paraphrase, not a replacement. Read the official lesson at acim.org and follow any wording it gives that is more specific than this card.
