Walk through this chapter
Chapter 13. Each section of this chapter, in order. Ordinary words under a paragraph are the same teaching, said simply. The Text is the map. The day’s workbook lesson is still the walk. Official Text: acim.org.
Guilt is the ego’s engine
Guilt says: something real was damaged, someone must pay, including you. That sentence is how the ego lasts. A guiltless world is not a world where nothing rough happened. It is a world in which happenings are not used as proof of sin.
You can remember, and still refuse the courtroom. That refusal is the guiltless world.
The holy instant as a gap
A moment you are not running the past as a courtroom. Time is kind when it is used for that gap. Spiritual guilt — ‘I should be further along’ — is still guilt, in better clothes.
Drop the spiritual scoreboard. Remorse as identity is a new ego.
Release from guilt is not a mood
It is a decision about what the past is for. The Holy Spirit uses the past only as a way to teach that it is gone. The ego uses it as evidence.
If you need the old injury to tell you who you are, you are still paying the ego’s wage.
How to sit this chapter
When guilt arrives — ordinary or spiritual — say: this is the engine, not the truth of me. Then do the next kind thing, which is how the engine loses fuel.
Kindness polarizes. Guilt does not.
Words in this chapter
Holy instant
A gap in ordinary time where you stop running the ego’s version of now. It is not a trance and not a reward. It is the present, given. Part II’s whole method is to offer that instant and wait.
Time
A teaching device. The workbook says you see only the past — because perception is memory laid on the present. Forgiveness collapses that. The holy instant is not more time; it is the end of using time against God.
The world
A witness you made, then believed. Not a planet to be despised. “I have invented the world I see” means the meaning, not the furniture. The real world is what remains when projection is withdrawn — the same day, without the war.
Sin
In this course sin is not a crime on God’s books. Error is correctable; guilt is the ego’s fuel. “Let me remember that there is no sin” does not mean “nothing happened.” It means what happened did not create a new kind of being who is now unlovable.
Guilt
The ego’s proof that the separation worked. Guilt demands punishment, then calls the punishment justice. Holiness is salvation from guilt — not because you became innocent by effort, but because guilt was never the truth of you. If guilt is hell, its opposite is not better guilt.
Spalding
Drop the guilt, including the spiritual kind. Tina will not let remorse become a new identity.
Open streamRa
Guilt is unused catalyst plus a story of unworthiness. It helps no harvest.
