Bringing Illusions to Truth

Original study notes. The book remains the book.

In plain words

Do not try to make the dream true enough to live in. Bring the dream to truth and watch it thin. The circle of Atonement means what you accept for yourself is already for them.

Walk the sections in order. Open ordinary words when a paragraph is heavy. The book remains the book.

Walk through this chapter

Chapter 14. Each section of this chapter, in order. Ordinary words under a paragraph are the same teaching, said simply. The Text is the map. The day’s workbook lesson is still the walk. Official Text: acim.org.

Bring the dream to truth

Do not try to make the dream true enough to live in. The ego wants a better story, a fairer war, a nicer specialness. The Holy Spirit wants the illusion brought into the light, where it cannot keep its density.

Stop improving the dream so it can finally satisfy you. Look with a different Teacher.

The circle of Atonement

What you accept for yourself is already for them. Minds are joined; one true forgiveness is already shared. This is not a club. It is how mind is.

You do not have a private miracle. Accepting it for you is accepting it for the room.

Teaching from the past

The ego keeps time by teaching yesterday as law. The holy instant interrupts that teaching. You are not asked to forget events. You are asked not to let them be the curriculum.

If you are polishing the old story so it can still run the day, you are in the opposite of this chapter.

How to sit this chapter

Take one illusion you have been improving — a better argument, a fairer grudge. Bring it to truth: look at it without the wish that it be real. Watch it thin.

You do not destroy the world. You stop using it as evidence.

Atonement is a change of mind

  1. The error

    You believed you left God.

  2. The correction

You never did. That fact is already true.

  3. Your part

Accept it, on something that actually bothered you, today.

The correction is already done. Your part is to accept it — usually by dropping a grievance.

The plan this chapter names: Atonement.

Words in this chapter

Holy instant

A gap in ordinary time where you stop running the ego’s version of now. It is not a trance and not a reward. It is the present, given. Part II’s whole method is to offer that instant and wait.

Spalding

Stop improving the dream. Wake. Tina's tone here is almost impatient, and usefully so.

Illusions are distortions of the one original thought. They need not be destroyed. They need to be seen through.
