Text · Chapter 15

The Holy Instant

Original study notes. The book remains the book.

In plain words

The holy instant is a moment you stop using time the ego’s way. A special relationship uses a person to complete you. A holy one uses the bond to remember God. What you want from them, you must find in God first, or you will devour them.

Walk the sections in order. Open ordinary words when a paragraph is heavy. The book remains the book.

Walk through this chapter

Chapter 15. Each section of this chapter, in order. Ordinary words under a paragraph are the same teaching, said simply. The Text is the map. The day’s workbook lesson is still the walk. Official Text: acim.org.

The holy instant

A moment you stop using time the ego’s way — as a line in which you get, lose, and revenge. Now, without the past as a weapon. The Holy Spirit’s substitute for the whole of time.

You do not need a silent retreat. You need one honest now in which you are not prosecuting.

Special relationship

A bargain: I will love you if you make me feel like I exist. That bargain is fear in nicer clothes. The person becomes a supply.

What you want from them, you must find in God first, or you will devour them.

Holy relationship

The same people, a different goal: truth instead of need. Intimacy in this book is not a soulmate myth. It is two minds that will not use each other.

Holy is a use, not a feeling. The shaking when the goal changes is the classroom opening, not proof you chose wrong.

The two uses of time

Ego-time is delay and revenge. Holy-instant time is a gap that teaches there is no delay. Chapter 15 is the hinge of the Text: from theory to how you actually sit with a person.

Give this hour to God first. Then you can actually see the person.

Time as a classroom

The old use

The archive as a weapon

Every similar face is last time. The future stays identical.

The holy instant

This look, unused

You do not clock it. You offer it. Time continues for the body. The need for time as a weapon lessens.

The past is not a chain. It is a file you keep opening. The holy instant is not using it.

Two uses of a bond

Special

Complete me

A bargain. I will love you if you make me feel like I exist. Fear in nicer clothes.

Holy

Remember with me

The same bond, used for truth instead of need. Two minds that will not use each other.

Chapter 15–17. Same people. A different goal. Holy is a use, not a feeling.

Words in this chapter

Holy instant

A gap in ordinary time where you stop running the ego’s version of now. It is not a trance and not a reward. It is the present, given. Part II’s whole method is to offer that instant and wait.

Time

A teaching device. The workbook says you see only the past — because perception is memory laid on the present. Forgiveness collapses that. The holy instant is not more time; it is the end of using time against God.

Holiness

Not piety and not cleanliness. Holiness is what you are because of your Source. “My holiness envelops everything I see” is not a claim that you became impressive. It is the refusal to see unholiness as anyone’s identity — including yours.

Making Love to God and the holy relationship are twins. Tina's Jesus will not bless a special relationship you are using as a drug.
