Text · Chapter 18

The Passing of the Dream

Original study notes. The book remains the book.

In plain words

You do not have to undo the whole dream. You need a gap — a little willingness. The Holy Spirit uses the gap. Honest minutes beat a performed hour.

Walk the sections in order. Open ordinary words when a paragraph is heavy. The book remains the book.

Walk through this chapter

Chapter 18. Each section of this chapter, in order. Ordinary words under a paragraph are the same teaching, said simply. The Text is the map. The day’s workbook lesson is still the walk. Official Text: acim.org.

A little willingness

You do not have to undo the whole dream. You need a gap. The Holy Spirit uses the gap. Perfectionism is a stall: ‘when I am ready, when I have undone it all.’

Bring five honest minutes. That is the whole offering. Mastery as a pose does not harvest.

The little garden

The substitute reality is the ego’s world, which you have been improving. The garden is the small place of willingness you actually have — not the whole earth. Guilt appears as a cloud over that garden.

You need not scatter every cloud. A little willingness is enough because the last step is God’s.

The substitute for the love of God

The dream was made as a replacement. You do not smash it. You look from a different Teacher until it thins. Honest minutes beat a performed hour.

This is the mercy of the Text. Ra: a little polarization, consistent, harvests.

How to sit this chapter

Do not wait until you are spiritually impressive. Sit now, badly, willing. That is Chapter 18. The rest is delay dressed as standards.

The gap is enough. You are not the last step.

Words in this chapter

Sin

In this course sin is not a crime on God’s books. Error is correctable; guilt is the ego’s fuel. “Let me remember that there is no sin” does not mean “nothing happened.” It means what happened did not create a new kind of being who is now unlovable.

Guilt

The ego’s proof that the separation worked. Guilt demands punishment, then calls the punishment justice. Holiness is salvation from guilt — not because you became innocent by effort, but because guilt was never the truth of you. If guilt is hell, its opposite is not better guilt.

Spalding

Willingness, not mastery. Tina's Jesus would rather have your honest five minutes than your performed hour.
