Specialness as the ego’s home
The wish to be the exception — more important, more hurt, more holy. It can look like pride or like victimhood. Both are ‘I am the exception.’ God has no exceptions. That feels like an insult to the special self.
If your spirituality needs you to be rarer than the person nearest you, you are still here, dressed up as spirituality.
The enemy of God is not a devil
It is the wish to be the one God made an exception for. Specialness is the enemy because it requires ranking. Holy relationship is specialness handed over as material: this bond, used for truth.
Preference can remain. Ranking as identity cannot, if you want this chapter.

Being the one who knows, the one who came from elsewhere, the one who suffers more — all can become this chapter. Carla warned against elite identity. Service first.
If the story of you requires someone else to be less, it is specialness, even if it is a cosmic story.
How to sit this chapter
Name your favorite exception. Give it to the Holy Spirit as classroom, not as throne. Watch how ordinary you become, and how much kinder.
Ordinary is not a demotion. It is the end of the war of rank.

Specialness
The ego’s home: a little self that must be preferred. Spiritual specialness is the same trap in nicer language. If a teaching makes you more separate from the person doing ordinary work beside you, it is not this course for that hour.
Ego
A belief, not a little person inside you. The ego is the thought that you are a private self who must win, defend, and explain. You cannot fight it. You stop using it as your advisor. Spiritual specialness is still the ego, in better clothes.
