Egyptian deck · The Fool
The Choice — numbered 22 here, not 0. Culmination, not preface.
Polarity. Service-to-others or service-to-self. The one exam of third density. Every other card exists so this step can be taken in the dark. Pair with the three Significators.

Meaning
Ra numbered The Fool as twenty-two because the Choice is what the twenty-one stations were built to make possible. The figure steps toward a cliff because the veil hides the ground — and still the step is taken. Service-to-others is the step toward the other as the Creator. Service-to-self is the step toward control. Mixed is walking in circles at the edge. You cannot harvest as a tourist of both. The Magician without this card is unused will; the Sun without this card is a glow with no path; the Hanged Man without this card is a complaint about the rope.
What the picture is doing
A walker, staff, small bag, a dog sometimes, a cliff, a white sun. The bag is all you need. The cliff is the veil. The step is the density.
What Ra asked to keep
In plain words
Keep
- Arcanum 22, last. The Choice. Pair with the Significator (5, 12, 19).
- Ra: the great breakthrough after their own third-density work was giving this card its proper emphasis (88.24).
Release
- Number 0 at the front of the deck as a cute preface.
- The Fool as ‘just starting out’ rather than the vote that every other card serves.
In a life
The next sentence. The next kindness or the next win. A vote with no audience. You have already been this card a thousand times today. Study it to notice, not to become a Fool as a brand.
Polarize (choose love this hour)
The Choice is the vote. The Moon is the fog after the vote. Control is often mixed polarity this hour — forcing a person, an illness, or an outcome. Service-to-self is a dedicated life of that control. Most hours are mixed. You polarize by dropping control of this one situation.
Polarize, the Moon, and controlService-to-others
Step toward the face. Fifty-one percent is a working majority of such steps, not a pose of saintliness.
Service-to-self
Step on the face. Ninety-five percent purity of control. Rare, steep, allowed. Not recommended. Fascination with this path is unused fear.
How to sit
Look at Hierophant, Hanged Man, Sun, then this. Ask which step the next hour is. Take it. Close the deck.
Speak this hour with this picture: tarot sitting.
Unused will, the priest-mind, and the step: notes for the adept.
Course
The tiny mad idea was a choice. The Atonement is the other choice, already accomplished, waiting. Little willingness. Lesson 365: this holy instant would I give to You.

You are free to stay asleep. You are also free to love the person in the room. That is the whole metaphysics, domestic.

She chose, daily, to sit, to serve, to remain. The Fool as a life, not as a leap off the planet.

This pair · this priest-mind + the vote
As the one who knows, do I bless, or do I rule?
You, as a mind that can teach or rule, plus The Fool. The exam is love or control. Knowing more is not the grade. Which way the priest faces is.
Full pair answerThis pair · this yielded body + the vote
Is this sacrifice a gift, or a way to be owed?
The Hanged Man plus The Fool. Giving the body over can be love. It can also be a debt you will collect later. The Choice sorts them.
Full pair answerThis pair · this radiance + the vote
Does the light warm the room, or light my face?
The Sun plus The Fool. Spirit as it currently shines. Warmth is service. A spotlight on the self is the other path. Same brightness.
