The Hierophant / High Priest

The mind as it is. The actor. Not the unused will, not the arriving day — you, thinking, the one who will choose. Pair this with The Choice.

In plain words

This is you as a mind that can bless or rule. Knowledge is not the grade. Which way the priest faces is.

Plates from L/L Research’s Book IV study set: Arcana 1–7 redrawn to Ra’s corrections; 8–22 from George Fathman’s The Royal Road (Egyptian tarot). Not for fortune-telling. PDF · L/L Research

Meaning

Significator means the entity itself in this cycle. The Hierophant is the mind-complex as a living priest of whatever teaching it has accepted — Course, Confederation, family myth, grievance. Two acolytes often sit below: the fork already in the mind. You do not improve this card by collecting better doctrines. You polarize it. The significator is changed by experience and transformation; it is not replaced by a new deck.

What the picture is doing

A teacher between two pillars or two kneeling figures. The point is the mind as priest of a path. Which path is the next card-pair’s business, and card 22’s.

What Ra asked to keep

In plain words

This is not a church job. It is the mind that has been through catalyst and experience and can now act as priest — of the One, or of the self.

Keep

  • The priest-mind: the significator is the actor of the cycle, the mind as it has become through experience.
  • Sphere / scepter pattern of spiritual power in the hand — later used as a model for Card 7 (103.13).

Release

  • Letters and stars, as on every card (96.15).
  • Astrological overlay.

In a life

Who you are when no one is watching the metaphysics. The inner narrator. The one who will forgive, or not, at 9 p.m. That one is the Hierophant. Introductions that begin “I am a Course student” are poses on this card.

Service-to-others

A mind that teaches love because it is becoming love. Elder brother, not lecturer. Lesson 61–62 without the title.

Service-to-self

Guru mind. Doctrine as status. The priest who needs congregants to feel real.

How to sit

Ask: of what am I the priest today? If the honest altar is a grievance, you have the card. Pair with The Fool before you add incense.

Speak this hour with this picture: tarot sitting.

Unused will, the priest-mind, and the step: notes for the adept.

Course

I am as God created me — the significator’s true name. Ego is the false hierophant. The curriculum is which priest you consult.

Spalding

You are not a student at the end of a book. You are a Son who can remember. Skip the title.

Ra

The mind as it is. The actor. Not the unused will, not the arriving day — you, thinking, the one who will choose. Pair this with The Choice.

Rueckert

She was an instrument and a churchwoman. Two altars, one significator. Nested, not competing.

This pair · this priest-mind + the vote

As the one who knows, do I bless, or do I rule?

You, as a mind that can teach or rule, plus The Fool. The exam is love or control. Knowing more is not the grade. Which way the priest faces is.

Same job, three rooms · Significator

This row is you as you are this hour — the one who will vote. Hierophant: a mind that can bless or rule. Hanged Man: a body that can give, or collect a debt. Sun: light that warms the room, or a spotlight on you. Pair each with The Fool. That pairing is the exam.
